Wheeling Jesuit Wins Battle of WV

Wheeling Jesuit defeated West Virginia 75-18 Saturday in a non-conference game.

Former USA U20 player and collegiate All American Peter Malcolm scored four tries in the game and Inosi Kau scored two in a game that saw nine players touch down.

The game was held after the Gonzaga HS v Royal Irish high school clash. That game led into this battle of West Virginia.

The game was relatively even early on, with Wheeling Jesuit entering halftime up only one point, 19-18. But after making adjustments for the second half, the Cardinals began to explode their superiority out wide. Using the width of the field they pressured the Mountaineers and ran in ten unanswered tries.

WJU was able to bring all of its reserves in the 2nd half and reserve players contributed massively to the effort.

“We played a solid 2nd half of rugby,” said coach Tal Bayer. “Our ball movement, support lines and team play were what made the difference closing things out.”

Other try-scorers included Brandon Stine, Tyler Ozmen, Ryan Scaggs, Julian Santana, Michael Fitzpatrick, Cecil Rich, and Nick Lavicoli.
