Vienna Wins Virginia Girls Championship

Vienna Girls rugby didn't lose a game this season.

Vienna took home the Virginia High School Girls Rugby Championship this past weekend, beating TC WIlliams 38-0 in the final.

It was certainly an impressive showing by Vienna, with with forwards Devon Casey, Fabi Rosales, Hannah Garfield, Natalie Allen, Cate Coetzee, Taylor Johnson, and Soha Guirguis controlling the scrums and rucks. When they got it out wide the Vienna backs—Sofia Florio, Mia McKinstry, Chloe Steele, Lucy Garfield, Josie Neel, Leia McKinstry, and Nadia Alam—found space and got around the edge on a regular basis to run in six tries.

Girls players should check out Next Phase Rugby. If you are a HS rugby player who wants to connect with college rugby coaches, you can use the Next Phase Rugby app in your device's app store or go to NextPhaseRugby.com

Floria had two tries with bursts up the middle, while Mia McKinstry and Josie Neel each scored down down the sideline and beating multiple TC Williams defenders. Freshman Lucy Garfield  made a series of dominant tackles against bigger players that helped [reserve the shutout.

Vienna finished its Spring season unbeaten in all its matches.
