USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships Announces First Group of Teams

R7CC tickets on sale for May 14-15 in Atlanta.

ATLANTA—The USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships (R7CC), taking place at Kennesaw State University’s (KSU) Fifth Third Bank Stadium from May 14-15, 2022, has released a bunch of names of teams competing in the various brackets.

The event is the USA Rugby-supported national championship tournament for both men’s and women’s collegiate 7s, and will be broadcast live on NBC, CNBC, and Peacock.

The tournament will include over 60 teams across three division tiers (three each for men and for women). Men’s teams will be broken into Gold (D1A), Red (D1 Club), and Blue (D2) divisions while women’s teams will compete in Gold (D1 Elite and NIRA), Red (D1), and Blue (D2). With the completion of recent qualifier tournaments, event organizers have announced the first group of confirmed teams. More participating teams will be announced as regional and conference qualifiers are completed.

Men’s Gold Division: University of Arizona, Central Washington University, Indiana University, Life University, Lindenwood University, The Ohio State University, Saint Mary’s College, UCLA. Eight teams are named and more will come in, including the winners of the Red River Conference tournament and the Rocky Mountain conference tournament. At-large bids will round out the bracket.

Women’s Gold Division: Central Washington University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Life University, Lindenwood University, and Penn State University. This is a division that basically combines the NIRA teams and the D1 Elite teams, providing a special chance for these two competitions to face off. The NIRA qualifiers will round out this bracket, and there will be some at-large teams.

Men’s Red Division: University of Florida, Long Beach State University, and the University of Tennessee. There's a lot of fill out here, with Pacific Western, Heart of America, Lonestar, Northwest (NCRC), and Mid-America conference champions set to send teams. There will also be some at-large bids.

Women’s Red Division: Qualification tournaments from the Big 10, Northeast, Pacific Desert, and Pacific Mountain conferences are yet to be concluded. Added to that will be some at-large candidates.

Men’s Blue Division: The Men’s Blue Division will consist of Gold Coast, Lonestar, and Rocky Mountain conference representatives, as well as several at-large bids.

Women’s Blue Division: The Women’s Blue Division will consist of conference champions and several at-large bids.
