Top Teams in NorCal Keep Going

De La Salle just gets by.

The top-ranked teams in Northern California kept winning in a league that is establishing itself as one of the strongest in the nation.

Granite Bay defeated Jesuit of Sacramento 33-17 in a game that was the closest game GB has played save for their game with Tempe. More here>>

De La Salle also won, defeating Marin in a game that was much closer and more difficult that expected. Marin, fresh off their tour of Italy, was hungry and exploited some inexperienced patches in the DLS lineup. De La Salle held off Marin 31-24.

"We had a good week of training and felt confident with the team we brought on the field," said DLS Head Coach Derek Holmberg. "We really couldn't get much going on attack in my opinion due to people in new positions, being on a foottball field, and Marin's defense. At this point in the season injuries are expected, so the next man up mentality has to be there. I am proud of the boys effort as there were no style points today. Marin left it all on the field and we had to steal the ball and kick it out to finish."

SFGG defeated a tough Lamorinda team 36-17.

It was another relatively close game for SFGG, but they are currently 5-1 in NorCal action, beating Mother Lode, Danville, East Palo Alto, and Marin as well as Lamorinda. Their only loss was to Granite Bay and the 40-21 scoreline wasn't that much different from Jesuit's deficit. Overall SFGG has scored 145 points in those six games and conceded 95, 40 of which were in one game. In their wins SFGG averages 11 points allowed.

Granite Bay has beaten SFGG, Mother Lode, Lamorinda, and Danville as well as Jesuit, and now goes on tour to Ireland with GRR sponsor Irish Rugby Tours running the show.
