Strake Jesuit Gets In Victory Before Hiatus Starts

Strake Jesuit and Brother Martin players pose together.

In what was quite possibly the last rugby game played in the United States before all rugby was halted due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Strake Jesuit defeated Brother Martin in a tour of Louisiana.

The game was held on March 13, just before USA Rugby stopped all rugby for 30 days, the game was a strong showing for Houston-based Strake. A strong performance by the seniors on the Strake team was highlighted by co-captain and fullback Ethan Kao, who scored two tries and mounted an impressive kick-return counterattack to set up Rodrigo Munoz-Ledo for a try.

Senior lock Jared Robinson, who had 20 family members in New Orleans for the game, scored two tries, including a 60-meter gallop, and sophomore flyhalf Jared Broussard also scored two.

Junior Pablo Granados and sophomores Joey Garcia and Marc Arsham also scored. Arsham, who played center in this game, knocked over seven conversions for a personal haul of 19 as Strake Jesuit won 67-27.

Co-captain and Aiden Brown, who plays flanker and center, was a force all day, making tackles and working the breakdowns.
