State Finals on Saturday

We have a few additional state champions this week.

Marquette won a close one 21-17 over the Pulaski Roos to take the Wisconsin title.

New Trier rode the momentum that saw them get to the final of Tier II of the HS National Championships, beating Naperville 66-5 to take the Illinois HS Club title.

In Ohio we saw several finals. Look for a report on the girls final on Sunday.

Among the boys, Westshore beat Olentangy 28-8 to cap off an excellent season with a Ohio HS Club championship. In the school final Medina defeated Watkins Memorial HS Warriors 30-17.

The Boys Varsity finals included a JV final, which St. Ignatius 43-12 over St. Edward thanks to an outstanding showing from the back row of Rocco Capuano, Josh Toth, and No. 8 Bryce Keller, with scrumhalf Braeden Oddi keeping the play moving quickly.

In the 1st-side varsity final, Ignatius also won, capping off their HS National Championship season with a 45-14 win over St. Edward. Wing Rafe Gabrovsek and No. 8/lock Gavin Vollmer were excellent on the day, while captain and scrumhalf Mark French, along with center Colin Spellacy, impressed.

Hooker Luke Dotson was a force for St. Edward, as he has been all season.

Fordham Prep will face Xavier in the RugbyNY final. Fordham Prep got two tries from Tyler Vujtech and tries from Patrick Keeley and Matthew Clancy to beat McQuaid Jesuit 22-5 in the semis. Xavier HS shut out Corning HS 61-0 to get to the title game.

In Tier 2, Chaminade beat Canisius to make the final. Rye HS slammed Orchard Park 58-5 in the other semi.

The finals are June 1.
