Some quick notes from state championships around the nation.

In New York it will be Rye vs Xavier on Sunday for the state D1 championship. Rye shut out Canisius 18-0 and Xavier beat Corning on Saturday.

In Illinois, Glen Ellyn defeated New Trier 45-17 Friday night to take the Rugby Illinois title. Joey Pope scored four tries for the Ducks.

"I thought Glen Ellyn improved throughout the season and we were really happy to be able to travel out of state this year to play top schools and clubs from around the country," said Coach John McGurk. "I believe those games helped us become a better team as the season progressed. As it happens with most teams, we had to battle through injuries to some key players but that also allowed kids to step in and get valuable playing time. Even though we were a young team as we only graduate three seniors, I was very pleased with our performance and we look forward to next year."

In Ohio, several champions were crowned on Saturday. The Watkins Warriors defeated Lake Catholic 55-5 to gallop to the D2 Single-School championship. Walsh Jesuit got two tries from Keith Perrotto in overtime to turn a 24-24 deadlock into a 36-24 OT win over St. Charles.

Medina rode a torrid first half to beat Avon Lake 36-17 in the Boys D1 Single-School final, and the Dayton Northern Force won 22-17 over Olentangy in the D1 HS Club final on a superb try in the final minutes.

St. Ignatius came away with two titles, beating St. Edward in the JV final 38-0, and in the Boys Super Elite Final against Moeller, won 32-0 behind a game MVP performance from flyhalf Bobby Voth.

Details to come.
