St. Xavier of Louisvulle, Ky. defeated South Doyle this weekend in a clash with the defending Tennessee champs in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Tigers came out fast and hard and took an early 12-0 lead on tries by Logan Butler, Tucker Donlon and a conversion kick by Alec Campisano. South Doyle weren’t about the let that stand without a response, and scored two tries to lead 14-12.

St. Xavier retook the lead with a try just before halftime. The 2nd half was a fierce back-and-forth battle with South Doyle twice closing to within three points, only to see the Tigers stretch out the lead both times. Then Doug Shaffner broke through and raced in for a late try that basically sealed the deal. St. Xavier won 36-26.

The 2nd-side game was also a victory for St. Xavier, 42-12.
