Space Still Open For Come And Take It Youth/HS Tournament

The Come and Take It Tournament holds 11 brackets across several Youth and High School levels.

The Woodlands Youth Rugby Club will be holding its annual Come and Take It Tournament this year after having to cancel it last spring due to the COVID shutdowns.

The tournament will be held on February 13 at The Woodlands Township’s Gosling Sports Fields in The Woodlands, Texas.

This is the third year for the Come and Take It Tournament and Woodlands Rugby will be welcoming teams from all over the state of Texas as well as surrounding states. For almost all of these teams this will be the first opportunity to play rugby against an opponent in about 11 months.

The first two years the tournament was held saw over 600 players compete and both years Rugby Texas recognized the event as the largest youth rugby tournament in the state. It's unclear how many players will be at this event, but it's well known that young athletes, and their parents, are champing at the bit to find opportunities for outdoor competition.

This year’s Come and Take It Tournament is presented by Jo Ann Johnson Real Estate Group, Roof Force and Rugby Texas.  During the course of the one-day tournament, Woodlands Rugby will be following federal CDC Guidelines along with local legislative protocols provided by The Woodlands Township and Montgomery County.  The tournament will be staffed throughout the day with licensed Athletic Trainers provided by Texas Children’s Hospital.

Attendees will have the ability to purchase food at Gosling Sports Fields from Your Chef’s Kitchen Table.  There will also be a silent auction and coaches door prizes.

Eleven divisions will have teams at Come and Take It: Minis (5-a-side), Grades 1-2 (7s), Grades 3-4 (10s), Grades 5-6 (15s), JH Girls (7s), JH Boys (15s), HS JV (D2/D3) Boys (15s), HS (D1) Boys (15s), and HS Girls (7s).  Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three matches.

Medals, donated by NOV ReedHycalog, will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place in each Division. Additionally, the Waste Connections Come and Take It Tournament Trophy will be engraved with the names of the winning teams of the HS (D1) Boys and HS Girls Divisions.

Registration will remain open until February 7, so for there is still time to enter your team.

While the Tournament is free, a fully-refundable Team Deposit is required at registration for High School teams: $200 for HS Boys Teams and $100 for HS Girls Teams. The Team Deposit will be refunded at tournament check-in. The Team Deposit will be forfeited if a team cancels or fails to attend the tournament.
