Southern Conference Joins NSCRO D2
The Southern Rugby Conference has announced that it joins the ever-growing list of Men's D2 college conferences working with NSCRO.
The Southern Conference split into a Premier and a Challenge division in 2019 to better follow the competitive balance of the teams. This allowed them to keep some Small College teams in the conference, while the larger D2 teams played in one of the strongest conferences in D2 rugby.
This evening, April 15, the Conference held its Annual General Meeting, and voted overwhelmingly to join NSCRO.
"We look forward to our D2 teams joining our current NSCRO teams in competing in what has proven over the years to be a very successfully run organization," said conference officials in a statement. "The NSCRO’s commitment over the years to promoting the college game, as well as their new focus on bringing in D2 conferences were the determining factors in our decision. We know that this is a trying time for rugby as many conferences and teams are looking for a new home with the difficulties that USA Rugby has been having. NSCRO has decided to take on hosting competitions for Division 2 teams this coming up fall, and as a conference we understand this is no small undertaking. We are excited to help them in any way we can, and look forward to what should be a great partnership going forward."
The Southern Conference Premier Division includes the following teams:
Appalachian State
The Citadel
East Carolina
Furman
North Carolina Chapel Hill
North Carolina Charlotte
North Carolina Wilmington
The Challenge Division includes:
Campbell
Coastal Carolina
College of Charleston
Elon
Lander
North Carolina Greensboro
Wake Forest
The Southern Conference joins the Great Midwest, Great Lakes, Gateway, and Cardinals conferences under NSCRO's new D2 umbrella.
