South Meck, Charlotte Catholic to Meet in NC Boys School Final

From early in january, South Meck (dark jerseys) edged Charlotte Catholic 25-24. James Dugan photo.

It will be Charlotte Catholics vs South Meck in the Carolinas School final next week.

South Meck, the #1 seed, cruised into the final after Ardrey Kelly was unable to field a full side and had to forfeit. Meanwhile, Charlotte Catholic controlled the issue against Myers Park, leading 17-3 at halftime and winning 38-8.

Catholic was playing well on both sides of the ball, allowing Myers Park little in the way of scoring opportunities. While the young Myers Park team battled and kept working, Catholic was very solid and showed that during a 10-minute goalline stand at the end of the first half that sent a message that Charlotte Catholic was not going to yield much.

AJ Smith scored two tries for Catholic with Adam Caple, Michael Egan, Joey Ruller, and Cade Gallo all getting one each. Caple added four conversions.

Catholic controlled the point of contact all night.

That, said Head Coach Nick Whitrow, "gave us a great platform to gain territory in attack and defense. I felt we were very patient in building our scores and the tight five played a very physical game. When Myers Park attacked they put us under a lot of stress but we were able to hold out until the very end."

This sets up a rematch of a league game between Charlotte Catholic and South Meck that saw South Meck win 25-24.
