Ten single-school high school rugby teams from Southern California have formed their own association.

The teams are all working toward getting official sanction from the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), and at the same time are looking for a more regular challenging games during league play. This move appears to be a separation from the Rugby SoCal oversight.

Here is the group's statement:

In an effort to accelerate the growth of rugby in high school the top high school rugby programs in Southern California have established the Southern California Interscholastic Rugby Federation. The inaugural season kicks off on 8 December and concludes with the championship game being played on 23 February.

The league, encompassing boys 15’s and girls 7’s, is made up of the Top 10 public and private schools in Southern California (6 San Diego County, 3 LA County and 1 Orange County). The overarching goal of the league is to promote and foster the development and implementation of rugby as a boys and girls varsity sport at the high school level. To achieve this goal all teams in the league are currently under the oversight of their school’s administration or athletic director and all games will be administered in accordance with existing California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) guidelines and policies.
