As reported earlier on GRR, the professional league formerly known as Superliga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) will be renamed Super Rugby Americas and add a North American component.
SLAR to Change Name, Raptors to Join
However, earlier GRR's earlier report that had a team from British Columbia playing turned out to be premature as there will only be the American Raptors out of Glendale in the Northern Hemisphere.
The renewed continental competition will bring outstanding players from seven countries involved. This competition helped drive Chile to a Rugby World Cup place thanks to series win over Canada and the USA.
For South America there will be, for the first time, two franchises from Argentina, and one each from Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay; For North America, the American Raptors, based in Glendale, will join.
