Six Teams at the Top in Ohio Boys 7s

Rugby Ohio will select its fall HS 7s champion this coming weekend.

We go into some detail on where the girls league sits; three teams are at the top and you can read more about that here>>

Meanwhile in the boys bracket, there are two, perhaps three teams on track for the title.

Well, we say that, but we said that last year and one of those teams didn't make the final. There can always be a surprise.

One of those teams is St. Xavier which has a 15-0 record, allowing less than a try per game and scoring an average of (exactly) 34 points per match. The only teams close to them in the South are Moeller, Northern Force, and St. X's 2nd team. Northern Force? Oh, they're just the team that upst St X in the semis last year, so you know St. Xavier will be careful with them.

And by close we mean 9-6, which is kind of close.

The other of those teams is St. Ignatius, which leads the North with a 15-0 record, allowing less than a try per game and averaging 33.93 points per game. So, yes, the defending champs have a team to worry about.

However ... there are more imposing challengers from the North.

St. Edward is a very snappy side that has put together a 13-2 record this season, losing only to SIHS.

And they're not the only ones. Medina at 12-3 and Highland at 10-5 are also close by.

Those six: St. Ignatius, St. Xavier, Dayton, Medina, Highland, and Moeller will probably be your contenders. It's not fully clear whether 2nd teams will get a championship look, but if they do St. ignatius and St. Xavier have very capable 2nd teams.

But as we learned in 2022, you overlook other teams at your peril.
