SIRC Down to Two

Middle Tennessee State and Central Florida will contest for the SIRC conference title Sunday after both teams won their playoff games Saturday.

Central Florida beat Kennesaw State 87-7.

"They are as advertised," said MTSU Coach Jody Hensley. "They are big, fit, fast, and play good rugby. They will be tough."

It wasn't so easy for MTSU, as they had to work to hold off Florida State 17-10. The teams kept training scores, but perhaps the key one was MTSU's second, was that, with the only conversion o the game, put them up 12-5. FSU got within two, but MTSU scored with 15 minutes or so to go and held on.

Josh Pentecost was once again the inspirational leader for Middle Tennessee State from No. 8.

"It was a good team effort," said Hensley. "We had a lot of possession and I think that's what did it for us. But it was a tough game, and we know it will be a tough final, too."

The winner will play the US Merchant Marine Academy in the DIAA quarterfinals in three weeks.
