St. George, Utah - Snow Canyon High School hosted several top boys HS teams in the West this past weekend in their 8th Annual Rugby Warm-up this weekend. With St. George being the warmer-weather location of choice for Utah rugby, the hope was for no winter, but winter put in an appearance with some freezing rain mixed in with the welcome sunshine.

Six teams participates, playing games on Friday and Saturday, with a tournament dinner on Friday night and a Saturday social including games and a movie.

Snow Canyon and United both finished the weekend 3-0. United's scoring was led by Ben Webber, who notched three tries, all in a 41-12 defeat of TC Fusion, and Darian Power, who also scored three on the weekend, including two in a 41-19 defeat of top Arizona team Red Mountain. Power added six conversions for 27 points on the weekend. Ben Griffin scored just the one try, but since it was the only score of the game against a tough Olympus squad, it was a crucial one.

Snow Canyon won their opener fairly comfortably but really had to battle against Red Mountain and TC Fusion. For Red Mountain and Olympus, it was likely an educational but frustrating weekend. Both lost tough, close games, but also came away with a lot of positives. Red Mountain edged Olympus 27-24 on Friday.

"We asked to play Olympus on Friday because we wanted to test ourselves and that was the game I wanted to focus on," said Red Mountain Head Coach OJ Hawea. "They are a very good team."

Four of the teams also fielded frosh-soph squads, with Snow Canyon's team winning both of their games.
