SCRC Latest, Tennessee, Alabama Win

Tennessee and Alabama will meet next week for the SCRC championship after both won their semifinals this weekend.

The Volunteers defeated Florida in Knoxville 41-26. It was a tight game early on, and Tennessee held a slim 5-0 lead, thanks to a Sam Hawkins try, through the first 17 minutes. Travis Vickers scored to make it 12-0 Tennessee, but Florida replied, and even after the first half was over and Keenan Kayser and Hayden Ryan had scored tries, Tennessee's 22-7 didn't seem all that commanding.

Florida tightened it to 22-14 right after halftime, before tries from Josh Landon, Mike Turner, and Dylan Craven put the game away for Tennessee.

It was much, much closer in Birmingham, Ala., as the Crimson Tide hosted the Kentucky Wildcats. Before the game, Alabama's Ross Depperschmidt said his team had felt they'd given away their previous 21-12 loss to Kentucky, mostly through penalties. In this game, it was back and forth, and wasn't decided until the final play, when Alabama's Brett Walsh scored a try to make it 33-32 for Kentucky, and then hit the conversion to win the game for 'Bama 34-33.

It was another Alabama upset, something Goff Rugby Report warned readers about in our preview: Upset Time in SCRC Semis?
