SCIRF Latest: Weird Results This Weekend

It was a very weird weekend in the CIF league in Southern California.

Defending champion St. John Bosco not only lost, they forfeited. Mira Costa, which had pulled off that impressive win over Bosco last week, lost big and was shut out by a really strong Torrey Pines team.

And 2-0 San Clemente fell to St. Augustine, while Cathedral Catholic jumped to 1st with that forfeit win over Bosco.

St. Augustine's 14-0 win over San Clemente might end up being the result of greatest note.

San Clemente played a strong, physical game and applied great pressure at the breakdown and on defense.

But Augustine weathered the pressure well enough. The center duo of of Travis Hall and Chase Basson once again led the defense for the Saints. Sophomores Adrian Davis and Anthony Alvarez stepped in at No. 8 and lock, respectively, to fill in for injured upperclassmen and did very well. Davis scored the only try of the day.

"We were happy with the shutout but not satisfied with our offensive output," said St. Augustine Head Coach Ethan Willis. "We made errors with ball in hand at critical points in the match that cost us points. We will continue to work on our micro skills this week and look forward to improving."

For Torrey Pines, flanker Vincent Tijernas was excellent in poaching the ball, logged ten tackles, and also scored while later setting up another try.
