Long Beach State won its opening game of the Gold Coast season, beating Arizona State 34-13.

Wing Joseph Nuez scored two tries, flyhalf Victor Gomez kicked nine points, and center Gibson Channel, prop Adam Sanchez, and wing Jacob Cortinas all touched down once. Arizona State got right points from the boot of scrumhalf Cameron Lugo, but a signal of how things were going for the Sun Devils was that a few minutes after scoring his team's only try, center Devin Rivet left the field injured.

CSULB Head Coach Jason Reynolds said his team looked rusty. The 49ers spent most of the game in the ASU half and surrendered very few scoring chances. But several odd-man rushes were fumbled.

"White line fever set in," said Reynolds. "If they had passed one more time we would have walked in. All in all we were good but need to finish better. Once it clicks we will do really well."

San Diego backed up their win over Arizona State last week with a 47-27 defeat of Azusa Pacific. Tries from No. 8 Michael Ramos and wing Devin Hoovel, both converted by fullback Jordan Sandoval, staked the Tereros to an early 14-3 lead, and then the wheels appeared to come off the Azusa Pacific bus. A penalty try and yellow card, making it 21-3, was followed with a red card to center Naju Casteel.

And USD continued to control, with second-half tries from Hoovel, hooker John Tatum, Sandoval, and flyhalf Michael Lewis. Sandoval added three conversions and it was 47-8 with ten minutes to go.

At that point Azusa Pacific found some space and go-forward, with lock Stephen Cox, scrumhalf Travis Hughes, and No. 8 Joshua Williams (with his second) all touched down. Hughes converted two to garner some positives.

Westmont beat Loyola Marymount 45-20, and the Norco offense kept going on at a brisk clip, following up a 78-7 win over Occidental with a 108-7 defeat of Cal State Fullerton. Center Ryan Hudson scored four tries, wing Jullien Rocha scored three, and flyhalf scored over 20 from the boot.

And USC is now 3-0 after they shut out Occidental 34-0. Center Angelo Reviglio scored three tries, flanker Pedro Gomez, prop Murad Jah, and flyhalf Thomas Bulow scored tries as well. Bolow added two covnersions.

San Diego and Norco are now 2-0. Long Beach is now 1-0.
