Saint Mary's Camp Coaches Want to Open Door to College Rugby

Saint Mary's College will host two two-day camps.

Current Saint Mary's rugby players will be directing the player ID and skills camps this coming August.

Lleyton Delzell, Hunter Chuhlantseff, Joe Yacoubian, and Mario Storti are set to work on the camps. We might also see Erich Storti.

They bring a very current approach to the camps and also serve as a way to show high school players what college rugby is like.

"Our goal for the SMC Rugby ID Camp is to show what Saint Mary's Rugby is all about," said Saint Mary's prop Chuhlantseff. "We want to take our campers through a day in the life of a Saint Mary's Rugby player's day, while also teaching them high-level skills and lessons that they can carry with them to where ever their rugby career lands them."

Added Gaels wing Mario Storti: "we want to create a fun environment where we can execute skills so these campers can walk away feeling that they have learned something."

Both Storti brothers as well as Chuhlantseff also played with the California Grizzlies collegiate team that toured Argentina this summer, going 3-0. Delzell, meanwhile, was named Most Improved Player at the Saint Mary's Rugby end-of-season banquet. Mario Storti was named Rookie of the Year at the same banquet.

"Along with growing the sport of rugby, and teaching valuable lessons to these young high school athletes, we hope to also grow our Gael Family in the process," said Delzell.

The Saint Mary's Rugby Player ID/Skills Camps are Monday August 1 to Tuesday August 2 and also Thursday August 4 to Friday August 5.

The schedule for each camp is the same, lasting 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. Lunch is included.

The camp is open to rugby players aged 14 to 18. All participants must take a lifeguard-administered swim test in order to use the pool—swimming 25 yards across the pool unassisted.

Information related to drop off, pick up, and what to bring and wear will be emailed to you after we receive your registration.
