Rugby Indiana Fires Off Letter To USA Rugby

Rugby Indiana leaders are angry at USA Rugby's mismanagement of finances.

Rugby Indiana has sent a letter to USA Rugby's CEO, the Board of Directors, and members of the organization's restructuring task force with a series of suggestions as to how to move forward.

That letter, obtained by Goff Rugby Report, says in part that USA Rugby needs to concentrate on its core jobs: insurance coverage, SafeSport certification, World Rugby coach and referee education and certification, and providing a high-performance pathway for age-grade players.

In addition, Rugby Indiana says USA Rugby should be working harder to partner with community-based groups such as the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs.

The letter calls for financial transparency in order to regain the trust from various organizations within USA Rugby, and "implementing internal controls and policies to prevent further financial instability." Pursuant to that, the letter calls for USA Rugby to relocate to a more cost-effective location (USA Rugby is currently based in Lafayette, Colo.).

And then Rugby Indiana also calls for self-governance of the youth and high school game.

Says the letter: "Rugby Indiana is a financially sound organization and will continue to operate in a manner that serves our mission, regardless of the support offered by USA Rugby in its reorganization efforts. Rugby Indiana is excited to kick off our 2020 season as we celebrate 30 years of youth and high school rugby in Indiana. Rugby Indiana is confident of its financial and organizational strength and is open to explore opportunities to help grow the game of rugby."

The letter was signed by the Indiana Youth Rugby Foundation Board of Directors.
