Rugby Georgia Update: Week 3

Roswell Park was the scene for two unexpected, lopsided victories in Rugby Georgia week 3 action.  The evening started with the Roswell Rebels, fresh off an emotional loss to the rival Phoenix RFC, hosting the upstart Etowah River Valley RFC.

Etowah, boasting the largest pack in the league started out strong and never looked back.  ERV fullback Lance Delisle, who also handles all kicking duties for his club, opened the scoring from 5M out for a 7-0 lead.  Last week’s hero, Raymone Devezin continued his scoring streak, going in from 20+M out for a 14-0 lead.  ERV Captain Caden Price closed out the scoring in the half for a 21-0 lead.

The half-time break is all it took for Roswell to show they were not out of this.  The Rebels took the 2nd half kick-off and prop Jacobi Thames powered his way into the try zone to close the gap to 7-21.  The Rebels continued to pressure ERV as Roswell captain Jake Pretorius closed the gap 14-21.  But that is as close as the hosts would come.  Even though Roswell controlled the majority of the half, costly turn-overs deep in the Etowah zone led to visitors scores.  Lock Clay Coccellato scored on a penalty try to widen the gap 28-14.  Outside Centre ERV Scrum-Half Brady Stanley closed the scoring taking the rock the length of the pitch after finding an opening on the short-side of an uncontested scrum to close the scoring.  Lance Delisle finished the match with a try and was 7 for 7 in conversions.  Final – ERV 42 – Roswell 14

The 2nd match of the evening saw host East Cobb go up against reigning champ Phoenix RFC.  After a scoreless 15 minutes, Phoenix opened the scoring with a slashing run from Justice Reeder.  Rafael Kennett, Ty Loveless and Dane Nelson would also score in the first half as the visitors took a commanding 26-0 lead into the break.

The Phoenix took the 2nd half kickoff and continued where they left off. Lock Jack Lavelle would extend to the lead to 33-0.  Kennett, Reeder and Loveless would each score their second try of the match and John Irwin was 6 of 8 in conversions as the Phoenix rolled to victory.  Final Phoenix RFC 52 – East Cobb 0
