Rocky Mountain Girls Sweep Idaho 7s

The Rocky Mountain HS Grizzlies won both the Varsity and JV Divisions of the Rugby Idaho and the West Ada School District girls fall 7s championships.

At the Varsity division Rocky was a heavy favorite coming into the final tournament with a 11-1 record. They held off a good Centennial team in the semifinal game 21-5. Centennial started strong putting the Grizzlies under pressure. In the second half, Rocky Mountain came out strong in the second half and took control of the game with their speed on the edges.

Mountain View played Meridian in the other semifinal game, which went back and forth the entire time. Mountain View toughened up their defense and would not allow Meridian space on the outside. Meridian had chances down the stretch, but a late penalty on Meridian allowed Mountain View to kick the ball to touch to end the game with a 17-10 win.

Rocky Mountain flexed their muscles during the championship game. Their depth and conditioning seemed to be the difference, with Nyah Cordero and Kennedy Watts both scoring two trieson the outside. Rocky Mountain took the final 35-0; Makayla Debry was perfect for the day making all eight conversions in the two games.

Meridian came into the JV Championship game having a perfect record. But Reagyn Molyneux, the league leader in tries, was held in check. Rocky Mountain focused on tackling low and bringing multiple players to not allow one player to beat them, and that seemed to work. Meridian showed its speed on defense, and made several cover takles to haul in Rocky Mountain brekaways.

The game was 0-0 until about three minutes left in the second half. A couple of cards at different times allowed both teams a scoring opportunity while up a player. But only Rocky Mountain was able to capitalize as Abree Franklin scored to take Rocky Mountain to a 5-0 victory.
