Quest for Gold 7s Set for June in LA; Tickets on Sale May 13

The Quest for Gold 7s will be June 25-26.

Los Angeles, Calif.  – With the Tokyo Olympic Games quickly approaching, Quest For Gold Sevens has confirmed international men’s and women’s teams to compete in an exhibition tournament at Dignity Health Sports Park, June 25-26.

With a majority of the participating teams being regulars on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the exhibition sets a perfect stage for pre-Olympic trials ahead of the Tokyo Games.

Similarly, following a challenging year for rugby and international competition, Quest For Gold Sevens acts as an open opportunity for USA fans to watch and support the USA National Sevens Teams before taking flight to the world's biggest sport stage. Limited tickets for Saturday June 26 elimination and final rounds will be available via pre-sale to HSBC LA Sevens past ticket buyers and USA Rugby Members on Wednesday, May 12 and subsequently available to the general public on Thursday, May 13.

QUEST FOR GOLD SEVENS COMPETING NATIONS

Men's Bracket
United States, Argentina, Kenya, Korea, Samoa

Women's Bracket
United States, Japan, Kenya, plus two nations to be confirmed

It is highly likely that additional Olympic and HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series teams or select sides will be added to the lineup in the coming weeks, as teams finalize their pre-Olympic preparations.

“It’s been great to get back at it after a well needed recovery following Dubai," said USA Women’s Head Coach Chris Brown. "We have a lot of fundamental sharpening to do and a significant increase of game discipline, a message coming from within the playing group, just as much as it is from me. I have no doubt we will be moving and executing as needed to give a quality, brave performance in LA, a perfect checkpoint tournament four weeks out from the games.”

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the players to put a strong marker down for Olympic selection," added USA Men’s Head Coach Mike Friday. "It will form part of our final selection process and the players will be eager to put their best foot forward. To have that opportunity in front of their family and home support, is pretty special.”

For Dan Lyle, Director of AEG Rugby, the tournament helps build on what the LA 7s began in early 2020.

“Our goal at AEG Rugby is to build an event that will replicate the competition teams will face at the Olympic Games this summer and help both our Men’s and Women’s USA Teams with optimal preparation before leaving for Tokyo," said Lyle. "We have worked in partnership with USA Rugby and World Rugby within COVID-19 guidelines to create this special event, which we think will be a truly electric experience for all players, fans and partners as a memorable send off to our Olympians. AEG Rugby is thrilled to be involved and to support the USA and international teams, in all of their ‘quests for gold.’"

Quest For Gold Sevens will be hosted at Dignity Health Sports Park, June 25-26, 2021. Friday pool play will be behind closed doors to satisfy existing COVID-19 restrictions, with open fan attendance for the elimination and final rounds on Saturday June 26. Adhering to safety standards, a limited number of tickets will be available to the general public. AEG Rugby, USA Rugby, Dignity Health Sports Park, Los Angeles County and the California Department of Public Health continue to work in close contact to ensure event operations safely host all players, coaches, staff and visiting fans during the entirety of their time in Los Angeles. Broadcast and live stream information will be available to announce shortly.

Pre-sale information will be delivered directly to past ticket buyers of the HSBC LA Sevens and US Rugby Membership and available to the general public on the USA Rugby website, questforgold.usa.rugby.

Media accreditation applications will be available starting May 24.
