Queens Pushes Army in Non-Conference Clash

Queen's University Charlotte men's team pushed West Point in an early-season non-conference game.

Yes West Point won, but the score, 48-28, and the fact that it was 26-21 50 minutes in, is encouraging for Queen's.

Army started well with Jonny Haley scoring two minutes in and Lucas Pattinson scoring eight minutes later. Sean McNulty converted the first try and it was 12-0 Black Knights. The Royals wouldn't go away and scored in reply before two tries from Michael Amberg made it 26-7 at halftime.

But Queen's came back again. Two tries, both converted by Thomas Keay, made it 26-21 with 30 minutes to go.

The final part of the game belonged to Army as captain Matt Meehan crashed over with McNulty converting. McNulty added a penalty goal and then Amberg completed his hat trick before Nolan Green galloped in. Queen's added another try to make it 48-28.

For Queen's, Prince-Louis Bush scored two tries while Hilton Oliver and Thomas Viles also touched down. Keay converted three.

"It was a fantastic day on the whole," said Amberg who led all players with three tries. "For many of these guys it was the first time playing at home and for the rest it was the first time playing in over a year. It was a great game to start the season and it showed us what we have to work on. We are excited to start climbing and continue to get better."

"We knew today was a big day," added Green. "Being back on Warrior Field with the team is such a great feeling and brings a lot of energy and emotion. The guys went out there today with the intent to win and we did just that. Everyone contributed to the win and I was proud to be able to play with the brothers again."
