The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association has announced that fall HS sports will go on as normal.

Sports and schools have been waiting for a long time for some specific guidelines and the lack of information has trickled into rugby and other sports. Wrestling and lacrosse events were held this summer, while an attempt at a rugby tournament was halted by Rugby PA.

However, even as the state moved into a stage where sports could be possible, Governor Tom Wolf announced a recommendation (but not a rule) that HS sports be postponed until 2021.

Sitting in limbo, sports teams and coaches and players waited to see if the PIAA would concur. Instead, today, the oversight body for high school sports voted to play as normal (although some seasons might be delayed a couple of weeks and some school districts have already halted their seasons).

What this means for rugby is unclear. Rugby PA is not an organization that is part of PIAA, but it is trying to follow its guidelines which Rugby PA linked to in their own return-to-play update earlier this month. Now the leadership in Rugby PA has to decide whether this latest PIAA announcement is soemthing they should emulate.
