Penn State Surprises Navy

Penn State pulled off a little bit of an upset, beating Navy 40-24 Saturday in D1A action.

These teams had clashed during the fall in Rugby East and Navy won that meeting 37-22.

But this time around Penn State exerted pressure early and got a big game once more from flanker Aiden King. Brian Stella was a huge presence in the backline and scored multiple times.

"The team just played really well," said Penn State Head Coach Justin Hundley. "They pressured Navy defensively and the set piece was working really well against a strong Navy pack."

With the ball Penn State were physical when they had to be and tried to move the ball.

"The team played some exciting rugby," said Hundley. "Dalton Musselman was great in his decision-making to run, kick, or pass. We had some young guys in the fall who learned some lessons and they carried that over to the spring. The team has worked extremely hard and I'm very proud of their effort."

This game was played as part of the Iron Vine Shield Series, a series of college games serving as curtain-raisers for the DC Old Glory MLR team.
