Penn, Jr Blues Lead in Lindenwood Tourney

Penn HS will play the Kansas City Jr. Blues in the final of the Lindenwood HS Tournament after both teams won their Saturday games in the Elite Division.

Penn HS looked superb in thumping 8th seed Eureka 46-5 and then defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 17-3 in the semifinal. Meanwhile, the Jr. Blues won their opening game in a close one 10-3 over St. Louis University High, and just barely edged Brownsburg 12-10 in the semis.

“We are both humbled and honored to be part of this first-ever event managed by a quality program like Lindenwood,” said Penn Head Coach Bart Bottorff. “My guys are just absolutely thrilled to be getting outside.”

Penn’s opening game was their first rugby activity outside all year.

In the Super 12 Division, Jefferson City, the Marquette Mustangs, Penn’s JV team, and the Thomas Aquinas JV team all won their pools. Penn JVs scored 60 points and gave up none.

“We’re a small club team in a state where most of the rugby is played in St. Louis or Kansas City,” said Jefferson City Head Coach Chris Bell. “We’re excited to be here just to get exposure to college coaches and work with [HS All American Head Coach] Salty Thompson.”

The teams braves snow and cold to get their games in. Sunday’s schedule is at the link brow, but could be changed due to the weather.

All scores are also in that link.
