Panther Rugby Academy, ARPTC To Work Together

Panther Rugby Academy and ARPTC will compete against each other at times, but also work together.

Panther Rugby Academy (PRA) and American Rugby Pro Training Center (ARPTC) have announced a joint strategic alliance to develop rugby programs and further promote USA Rugby High Performance Program.

The organizations will work together to support tours and special events that maximize opportunities for developing rugby athletes.

PRA President Mark Williams explained that while the two programs will compete against each other in U18 girls at elite tournaments, they pledge to equally support both programs.

“PRA expects to send multiple girls’ teams to the ARPTC Falcon 7s Tournament in June,” said Williams. “And while we do not currently have programs for females over 18, PRA will encourage players in this age group to join ARPTC to further their rugby development.”

Dr. Julia McCoy, Director of Rugby at ARPTC, added that an ARPTC/PRA partnership benefits both parties.

“PRA provides Development Camps across the Southeast, and ARPTC provides full time Resident Development in Little Rock, immersing the athlete in a professional environment. We compete with parity on the field but work together to put the player’s best interest off the field, without egoism. It’s a ‘win win’ collaboration for both organizations.”

The partnership is born out of long-term relationships formed in the rugby world.

“Julia McCoy  is one of my best friends in rugby,” said PRA Board of Directors member Kevin Kitto. “She actually coached the USA Rugby South Men’s at one time.  We are excited to set a pattern where organizations work together for the betterment of rugby.”

American Rugby Pro Training Center and Panther Rugby Academy are both officially recognized as a USA Rugby National Development Program.
