Pan-Am Men's Rugby Latest

The USA and Argentina lead their pools in the Men’s Rugby 7s bracket of the Pan-Am Games in Toronto, Ontario.

The Eagles defeated Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay, scoring 126 points and giving up just one try. The Eagles spread the scoring and minutes throughout the team, and performed no matter what team they put on the field. Of the 12 squad members, only one, Will Holder, did not score a try. This contrasted sharply with the USA’s pool play record in the 2011 Pan-Am Games, where they tied Brazil and barely beat Chile.

Later in 2011, the Eagles ended up taking Bronze by being Uruguay 19-17 on the final play of the game. This year, they dispatched Chile 26-7, and Uruguay 52-0.

Argentina, meanwhile, went undefeated behind the scoring touch of Emiliano Boffelli, who scored four tries on the day, including two in a 21-7 defeat of Canada.

The USA spread the scoring throughout the team, with Perry Baker, Martin Iosefo, and Carlin Isles tied with the team lead in tries, with three.

The men’s teams are now re-seeded for Sunday, with all eight still in the hunt for the Gold Medal.

The USA plays Guyana in the quarterfinals at 11:11am ET. Canada plays Chile, Uruguay faces Brazil, and Argentina plays Mexico.
