It's coming down to the wire in Rugby Oregon as the top teams have made themselves known.

We know about Union, and the defending single-school champions look very good again. Perhaps the scary thing is that Union's 2nd team just recorded the team's first win in the Varsity league, and that harbingers another strong Union team for 2017. Union won comfortably over Battle Ground, while the next two single-school teams, Lincoln, and the Pumas, also won.

In the club league, Polk County and Northside both won to move to 5-0. Northside beat Bend 54-19, and Head Coach Tony Iongi is a little bit surprised with the state of affairs.

"We have a group of young men who have turned out to be something special," said Iongi. "We just take it one game at a time. We've got 28 kids who are good enough to start. We came into the season with only four seniors and I wasn't sure what we had. But they are working together as a team, and it's been really good. We have some big forwards who can play a physical game, and we have some speed. It's a diverse team, and they are all playing well."

So, of course, this weekend, Polk plays Northside. It's a huge clash between two teams that have impressed all season. No one has come close to Northside. For Polk, things have been a little tougher, as they had that close game against Beaverton. But this weekend is the big test.
