Okapi Leads the Way in Florida

Okapi was pretty good last year too. (This photo is from 2023).

Okapi remains atop the Florida HS league and by a fairly convincing margin after their 27-7 defeat fo Tampa.

While Tampa battled, Okapi held a lead throughout their game to move to 4-0.

Okapi ed 22-0 in the first half and controlled the lineout and the scrum and were in control. Tampa struggled to get into scoring position.

Tampa closed it up in the second half, which they won 7-5. Okapi rang the changes and with players moving around to different positions the Wanderers found out that against a strong team they can't just shift it around.

Even so, the Okapi scrum was so strong that they had to go to uncontested late in the game.

With front-rower Zach Crook, flanker Miguel Villarreal, and wing Matthew Arteta leading the way Okapis is now 4-0 and Tampa falls to 3-1. Okapis is comfortable in 1st in the league with Jacksonville and Key Biscayne both at 3-2 and in 2nd. Tampa, however, is in good shape to be the #2 team. The Krewe has two games left while Jax and KB have one each. Tampa plays 1-4 Wellington in a few weeks and then finishes up with the Wolverines on April 6. That game will likely decide who gets the #2 seed in the playoffs.
