NSCRO Announces Major Steps Toward Self Determination

NSCRO will soon become NCRO.

The National Small College Rugby Organization has announced some changes it has made in order to further separate from USA Rugby.

The organization is going to be changing its name to the National College Rugby Organization (NCRO) as it adds some college programs that aren't from small colleges. According to the announcement, what is currently named NSCRO is in talks with various conferences about bring them into the organization.

NSCRO President Steve Cohen said NSCRO has received a proposal for general liability and personal accident insurance coverage.

The organization will be using SportLoMo for its new membership and competition management system, and has hired Lucy Zugschwert to run the membership services program. Zugschwert  previously served as USA Rugby's Membership Services and Database Manager and is well-regarded in her field.

What this means is that the movement to create satellite organizations within the American rugby community that handle the day-to-day operation of competitions, while leaving a smaller USA Rugby organization to worry about specifics such as the National Teams, working with World Rugby, and handling some issues such as coach accreditation and tracking referees to international appointments.

BUt the day-to-day oversight of the game for teams and conferences can be run by sattelite groups that won't then be affected if USA Rugby (as they did in 2018 and 2019) spends so much money that services have to be curtailed.

USA Rugby is currently going throughh the bankruptcy process, and must provide a plan to go forward. The developments in NSCRO (soon to be NCRO) are part of that.
