Notre Dame College Wins Big Over Buffalo

Cory Graham was a spark in the backs for NDC.

Notre Dame College opened the Falcons' 2015-16 DI season with an impressive 55-0 defeat of the University at Buffalo 55-0 at Mueller Field in South Euclid, Ohio.

This was NDC's home opener and was played in front of a big crowd during Welcome Weekend. The Falcons benefited from two good weeks of training before the game - two weeks during which the school's athletic department paid for the students to stay on campus and to get fed.

"I believe this may have given us an edge over Buffalo," said NDC Coach Jason Fox. "We had a great two weeks of three-a-day training sessions, which really helped develop an expectation of excellence. As a new coaching panel we completely overhauled the culture and the systems of the team from last season, when we lost to Buffalo 20-19, with the basically the same players in the first side. This turnaround reflects the tireless efforts of the coaching staff  throughout the summer and the two-week training camp to implement our strategies. Buffalo had some talented players however, we were able to play as more as a cohesive unit, with some great individual efforts."

Cory Graham, a DII All American in the 2014-15 season, was outstanding, sparking the backline, scoring two tries, and assisting on two more. Senior Rodney Thomas was the defensive anchor in the midfield and helped shut down the UB attack.

Notre Dame College was led up front by lock and captain Spencer Duncan, who helped produce front foot ball all game long. Sophomore flanker Cullen Barelka led the tackle count and came up with numerous half-breaks throughout the game.

In the B-side game, a freshmen-heavy Notre Dame Coillege team lost 15-10 on the final play of the game.
