Notre Dame College Wins Big Over Bonnies

Notre Dame College defeated St. Bonaventure 49-7 Friday night in a rematch of a game SBU won 34-29 last year.

Things have changed somewhat since that game last October. The Notre Dame College team is older, with most of thw 2015-16 squad returning, and St. Bonaventure has undergone a coaching change, with Tui Osborne taking the Head Coach position. SBU sill needs to work on its depth, but Bonnies' first half was solid, working a nice system and going through the phases to make it 7-7 early.

"We were able to play great defense on our goalline," said Notre Dame College Head Coach Jason Fox. "We were able to overcome our mishaps in our system and get back to playing disciplined rugby. I think when we stuck to our system, they became frustrated."

Fox said the game was much closer than the score indicates, and noted that SBU was within ten meters of the NDC tryline several times. However, they couldn't finish off those movements, and the Falcons battled on defense to keep them out.

"We did play very good defense, which is what we work on," said Fox. "We were able to sting some phases together and get it out to our backs to finish. [SBU] is well-coached. Tui is an awesome teacher of the game."
