North Carolina Opens

North Carolina's Boys single-school season kicks off this weekend, and the story is who can chase down Charlotte Catholic.

CC has had their game called off this weekend due to opponent numbers, but there are plenty of other teams ready to play:

Eagles at Panthers

Sabres at Hawks

Huskies at Ravens

Knights at Nighthawks

Vikings at Whirlies

Mustangs at Catholic (Forfeit win to Charlotte Catholic)

Charlotte Catholic will be fielding their "Blue" team in the NCYRA single-school league, while their "Red" team, their 1st team, will play further afield. This opens up opportunities for the other teams to challenge for the state title.

"This season, we are looking to adapt a more expansive pattern of play that breaks away from the Northern Hemisphere model common amongst American teams," said Charlotte Catholic Head Coach Ian Mueller. "We hope implementation of this new pattern will enable us to upset higher ranked teams, and earn a birth in Tier I of Nationals."

So far so good, as a 40-minute scrimmage against Charlotte Tigers last week went Catholic's way 21-12.

The Charlotte Catholic Reds will play top North Carolina club team Union County, and then they look ahead to St. Edward (Ohio), South Doyle (Tennessee), and several other top teams from inside and outside North Carolina.
