NorCal Kicks Off With Statement from Mother Lode

Mother Lode took their chances.

High School rugby in Northern California is coming back slowly, and it's becoming clear that playing in the Bay Area is a little more difficult than playing in some other areas of the region.

But they are getting back to games and early-on Mother Lode has already taken an important victory, defeating Jesuit of Sacramento 33-7 under the lights last weekend in Folsom, Calif.

In an entertaining game in front of a big crowd Mother Lode scored twice early and while Jesuit replied the second half belonged to Mother Lode. Spencer Enochian scored two tries for Mother Lode while Parker Mallot, Robert Paine, and Will Stranberg also touched down. Cormac Saint converted four of those five tries for eight points.

Jesuit's best performers were Ronan Krieger and JP Leatherby, while Saint and Stranberg received player of the game honors for Mother Lode.

For Mother Lode it was a big start to a league season where they can certainly make an impact. Jesuit, fresh off a trip to Southern California, showed some of their inexperience.

"We had opportunities but did not take them," said Jesuit Head Coach Andrew Acosta. "Credit to Mother Lode; they were organized and took their chances."

Next up for Jesuit is Bishop O'Dowd on Saturday. Mother Lode takes on De La Salle in two weeks.
