New Jersey Latest: St. Augustine, Morris Win

Morris capped off their regular season in Rugby New Jersey with a 31-0 defeat of Union over the weekend.

Nick Buttorworth, Angelo Sweeney, Patrick Feehan, and Pierce Hillabrant all scored for Morris, with Sweeney scoring twice.

Union is making a late rally into the season with emergence of their strong football players, therefore Morris adopted the same game plan they used against Aspetuck, which was to make the opposition's heavy forwards chase them around the pitch. Morris did well to spread the attack from sideline to sideline.

Still, Union got the ball they were tough to stop. The Morris coaches, however, formulated some training scenarios to deal with this and it paid off. The Morris defense was tough.

We still had to stop them since they had their fare share of opportunities but we battled hard holding them off for a shutout. The heat also didn't hurt.

Meanwhile, also in New Jersey, St Augustine Prep defeated Delbarton 47-7 on Sunday.

Loose forward Dennis Virelli scored two tries, and prop Michael Torowus also scored twice. Another back-rower, Gavin Curran, added one, while so did lock Robert Papadeas and wing Ryan Boult.

Jeffrey George added four conversions and Nicholas Campano added two.

With this win St. Augustine Prep secures top seeding going into NJ playoffs over Memorial Day weekend, where schools and clubs will compete in a mixed bracket. Morris will be there, too.
