The US Naval Academy women defeated West Chester in the final to win this past weekend's Emperor 7s at Princeton.

Navy actually ran out three sides in this tournament, with their first side going 3-1 overall.

The Mids opened the tournament with a win over the Penn State's #1 side 26-5. West Chester showed well and actually shut out Navy 17-0 in the second pool game before  rebounding to beat Princeton 20-5.

In this four-team bracket that was enough to put Navy up against West Chester for the final, and the Mids won 24-7.

Against Penn State Kyndall Wyngaard opened the scoring with a try in the first minute, and while the Nittany Lions responded to tie it, Chrissi Foster's try just before halftime, with Abby Hershner's conversion, made it 12-5 at the break.

Wyngaard scored her second try just after halftime (converted by Hershner) and MA Sorensen Award nominee Marissa Meyer ran in to make it 26-5.

West Chester beat Princeton in their opener 32-7 behind three tries from Brooke Crago and tries from co-captains Faith Morley and Heather Spangler.

They then shut out Navy in impressive fashion, with tries from Ty Hickey and Emily Almoney.

In the final round of games, Penn State edged West Chester 10-7, while a try from Meyer, and three from freshman Megan Leitz put Navy past Princeton 20-5.

So that left Navy, West Chester, and Penn State all at 2-1. West Chester ended up with a +14 points difference, Navy at +4, and Penn State at -18, so West Chester and Navy were on to the final.

The Golden Rams scored a converted try just 38 seconds into the championship match to take a 7-0 lead. But Meyer provided the response Navy needed with a try in the third minute and Hershner's conversion tied it at 7-7.

With time up in the first half Wyngaard finished off a try and Hershner made it 14-7. Navy had the momentum then and Meyer added another before Charlotte d’Halluin iced the game 24-7.
