NAI 7s Day One Roundup: Girls Brackets

Here's a quick look at the Girls brackets at the NAI 7s.

U14s

It was a very impressive showing by the Utah Cannibals as they defeated Monarch, SacPal, and Belmont Shore to go 3-0.

San Mateo was also 3-0 and so, too, was Atlantis (although one of the Atlantis wins was a forfeit). Those three are on top but Los Al Tribe, Belmont Shore and Sacramento Harlequins are all in a position to haul those teams in on Saturday.

U16s

Hawkeyes has a cadre of long-striding players who defend well and can accelerate. They produced a solid showing on the day to go 3-0. Rhinos was skills and played a unified game—they weren't especially big but they were physically strong in the tackle and moved the ball well.

Provo's defense led them through to tops in their pool, while Belmont Shore's smart team play, good passing, and elusive running saw them to a 3-0 day also.

U18s

This was a bracket where the teams that have been together for the year did very well. The Sacramento Harlequins, Eagle HS, and San Mateo all leveraged their unity .

The only select team to win their pool was USA Rugby South.

U18s Elite

The Rugby Advantage handles the snappy ball movement of Majestics to top their pool while Majestics went 2-1.

Pasefika was a really effective combination of open-field play and embracing the physical side of the game. Defensively Pasefika was outstanding, allowing just three tries in three games.

It remains a wide-open bracket but The Rugby Advantage might be the team of the weekend. But if there is a team that could bring them down, it would be Pasefika. The Hawaiian team, however, will need to get by Majestics to get the chance.
