The MSIRL is a regional league that completed its inaugural season in 2017 featuring nine of the best high school boys teams Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina had to offer. This added regional level of matrix play was a huge success by all accounts – It’s no wonder then that the league has grown in 2018.
This year, an additional three teams were added, including Tennessee into the mix, and the now twelve teams in MSIRL were divided into two conferences.
In the West: East Cobb, GA; Phoenix, GA; Knoxville (combined), TN; Greenville, SC; Irmo, SC; and South Greenville, SC make up a conference.
In the East: Charlotte Catholic, NC; Union County, NC; Charlotte Tigers, NC; Chapel Hill, NC; Clayton, NC; and Wando, SC make up the other conference.
For the regular season, each team plays every other team in their conference plus one cross-conference match for a six game schedule. Since all of the teams involved has their own state matches to play plus tournaments and friendlies – six is a good number – enough to establish a clear picture but not too many as to get in the way of other team obligations.
At season’s end, the top two teams from each conference move on to a simple playoff system. West # 1 plays East # 2 and East # 1 plays West # 2 in semi-finals. The winners of these play a final for the MSIRL Championship Cup.
Teams began play in January and most are close to wrapping up league play.
