Morris Opens Season With Win Over Doylestown

Morris HS Boys hosted their first preseason game of the year, taking on #36 Doylestown on Sunday.

Morris ran in eight tries to defeat Doylestown 46-22. Doylestown put up a strong fight to the final whistle with ferocious tackling and strong running.

Angelo Sweeney scored three tries and Nick Doumbe scored two for Morris, while Mikey Adams, Oliver Acuna-Casey, and Nick Buterworth each touched down once. Thomas McDevitt converted three.

Isaac Gamboa controlled the pace from set pieces and at breakdowns, and led the Morris attack effectively, while McDevitt and Tiyaan Pillay linked forwards and backs effectively at set pieces and breakdowns. The game was contested strongly at breakdowns and set pieces by both teams. Morris had a slight edge at the scrums as the game progressed.

Jacob Brennan made continuous strong runs at Doylestown defense, breaking the game line consistently. Hard-charging Doumbe tested the Doylestown defense with his running, getting those two tries but also setting up chances for Sweeney and more.

It was a good start for Morris, while Doylestown has plenty of time to address any work-ons.
