Men DII College Rankings Week #6

Spring Hill leaps into the rankings this week.

While the top two teams have not moved in the Goff Rugby Report Men's DII College Rankings, the rest of the rankings have seen plenty of upheaval, including a previously non-ranked team threatening the top ten.

Towson gets a boost to #3 after another good win, and VMI moves up for the same reason. Grand Valley State, idle this week, gets penalzied a little because of the strength of its conference, but really only a few conferences can brag about being strong past the top couple of programs.

UMS&T is in one of those conferences, which has three or four good teams and some others that struggle. Given how well St. Louis did last year, and that UMS&T beat SLU and Principia, we've decided they were too low, and bumped them up. #8. Is that because we're reluctant to promote a Georgetown team that is likely #3 in their conference? Yes. Or that we're reluctant to pump up too much a brand-new Lindenwood-Belleville team? Yes, although the Lynx are still in at #10.

Almost coming into the top ten is Spring Hill. We didn't make much of a move with the Deep South teams due to slow score reporting last week. But now we look at it, Spring Hill is slamming everyone they play, and did so again, this time over a ranked South Alabama team. We've got a feeling about them. Northern Michigan, beating #4 UW-Lacrosse, moves up 23 spots to #15. They could be higher, but their 80-0 loss to UW-Whitewater at the beginning of the fall is still in our minds.

Losing, UW-Lacrosse, of course, drops. In this ranking, one loss can make all the difference. Three NECRC teams are locked in at 21, 22, and 23. We put Vermont at the front because their early loss to Coast Guard was a close one, and we're pretty sure UVM has improved since then. Rhode Island beat USCGA this past weekend, so slots ahead of Coast Guard.

And finally, RPI upset Vassar, and did so by such a large margin that we have to put the Engineers in there.
