Men D2 College Rankings for Fall 2022 Week 5

Vermont vs UMass Lowell. Rory Goff photo.

The top five or six (or more) are making themselves known, and it's basically teams that win consistently and win by large margins.

Usually these top-ranked teams also hold the opposition to not very much. That's basically why the teams ranked in the top eight are ranked there.

We are starting to become a Central Missouri believer. After UCM beat Southern Nazarene there was some talk on the day that this was not SNU's first side. It was. Central Missouri could well be a dark horse on the national stage.

The GoffRugbyReport Rankings are brought to you by Next Phase Rugby, which is an app that connects college rugby programs (all kinds, including student-run teams) and HS rugby players. It's a good, detailed, and safe way to help you with your college search OR your recruiting efforts. Go to NextPhaseRugby.com to download the app and get started. Many dozens of colleges are already on the app.

USMMA moves up thanks to a close loss to Marist. Memphis moves up after one of those large-margin good-defense games. We do drop down UMass-Lowell and bring up Vermont after their game this past weekend. Officially their game is a tie, although they played overtime, which UVM won. So we decided to rank UVM one spot above Lowell, but that can change as the season progresses.

We bring in New Hampshire thanks to a series of decent results. We bring in Xavier after they beat Middle Tennessee State, and then of course we had to bring in Miami of Ohio because they had already beaten Xavier. We are thinking hard about Ferris State, who sit 3-0 in the Great Lakes, but we've decided to wait to see how they do against higher-ranked teams.
