MAC Playoffs This Weekend

Bowling Green is still favored.

The Mid American Conference will head into its championship weekend at Bowling Green Saturday, with four teams playing two games over the two days.

Bowling Green will take on the University of Dayton and Western Michigan will play the University of Cincinnati. Both games are on Saturday at 12 pm & 2pm.

The MAC final will be on Sunday at 1pm.

Bowling Green, Dayton & Western have been in the event all three years size the MAC went to a four team playoff in 2014. Up & comer Cincinnati went 4-0 in the South Division for their first appearance. BG and Western played each other in the 2014 & 2015 finals. The Falcons won pulling away in the 2014 final but needed a last second try to win in 2015.

While Western and BGSU again dominated the north division this year, in the South, four clubs were still in play for either the division championship or a berth in the MAC playoff right up to the last weekend. Cincinnati settled the issue by crushing Miami while Dayton scored a last second try to beat Louisville 13- 12 and secure the last berth in the MAC playoff.

The MAC winner and runner-up will both be playing the D1AA playoffs in two weeks.

Northern Illinois, coming off a school imposed layoff and Louisville were right up with Cincinnati in the most improved category. Regrouping from the layoff, Northern put together a 2 - 2 season, while Louisville, despite a 1 - 3 record, had a positive point differential and picked up two bonus try points and two bonus defense points.

Bowling Green remains heavily favored in this playoff, but it will be a huge clash between Western Michigan and Cincinnati to see who makes it to the final. Cincinnati raised its game for the final league match against Miami, showing off an offensive firepower the Bearcats hadn't had before. But WMU is a physical, hard-nosed team that can dominate possession.
