Los Alamitos Leads A Tight SoCal Varsity White

Los Alamitos continues to make waves in Southern California and could well be on its way to a title in the Southern California Youth Rugby Boys Varsity White Division.

Los Al has doubled its numbers from last year, and that's allowed them to field a 2nd side, even with a large number of underclassmen in the varsity squad.

This season a typically compact forward pack brings the power in senior flanker Jonah Charlton, senior No. 8 Ken Sale, junior prop Darren Fauni, and senior Aizak Fido, who is a high school All American. While Fido has remained in the pack to lead the forwards, former prop Mavaeganailetai Roberts, also a High School All American, has moved into the centers. He works with sophomore scrumhalf Joseph Nuez, and senior flyhalf Elijah Tuialii in a potent attack.

and Senior HS All-American center Mavaeganailetai Roberts.

Things have been going well.  We had our first friendly match against Wilson in December which went well.  Although we doubled our numbers from last year we didn't have enough to form a full JV & Varsity teams. Therefore, our Varsity team consists of several freshmen and sophomores but we also have our experienced 10 returners from last season.   The Wilson game helped our boys prepare against a strong and physical Servite team which we played the following week.  Although Servite is in our league this was just a friendly game. We play our league game against them next weekend.  We believe that Servite will be a contender for the SCYR HS White Championship.

After a long winter break we opened up our season on Jan. 4th against Saddleback Valley Christian who was fierce and technical in first 20 mins of the game pinning us in our own 22.  We were able to cap only 2 Trys in the first half going into the half at 12-0.  After regrouping the boys took charge and put up 35 points in the second half and finished the game 47-0.

This season we have a small forward pack being anchored by Senior flanker Jonah Charlton, Senior #8 Ken Sale, Junior prop Darren Fauni and Senior HS All-American Aizak Fido, The back line consists of a young scrum-half Sophomore Joseph Nuez, Senior fly-half Elijah Tuialii and Senior HS All-American center Mavaeganailetai Roberts.

Right now Los Al in 3-0 having beaten Saddleback Valley, Californis HS, and the Stallions (the last a forfeit win) without allowing a point. Next up? Servite HS, perhaps one of the teams that could challenge Los Alamitos.
