Lindenwood Tournament Day One

Royal Irish surges ahead v St. Edward. Allison Bradfield photo.

The Lindenwood Tournament returned this weekend with six top HS teams in action Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, despite chilly and snowy conditions at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., all of the games were held.

In one pool was Penn HS of Indiana, the Missouri Bears, and the Chargers out of Wisconsin. Penn shut out both the Bears and the Chargers, and the Chargers bat the Bears.

Hooker Gabe Yeoman had a big day with two tries in each gam for Penn HS. Prop David Afa'ese ran well and anchored the scrum, while center Drake Goranson was a powerful runner in the midfield. Defensively, Penn was perfect, shutting out both teams.

In the other pool, Royal Irish out of Indianapolis, St. Edward out of the Cleveland area, and Bishop Dwenger out of Indiana, met up. Royal Irish and St. Edward won big over Dwenger, and then faced each other later in the day. Royal Irish, in a game that was closer than the score makes it look, beat St. Edward 15-0. It was a very good run-out for Royal Irish.

So on Sunday each team will play one game. Dwenger will take on the Missouri Bears in the 5th/6th game. St. Edward will face the Chargers in th 3rd/4th game. And in the final, Penn will take on familiar rivals Royal Irish.

In three JV games on Saturday, Penn beat the Chargers and Royal Irish, while Royal Irish downed Chargers.
