Life University has recorded another intimidating win in the South Independent DI women’s conference. After opening up its first-ever matrix season with a 90-0 win against Florida State last weekend, the Running Eagles trampled Tennessee 122-0 on Saturday.

Senior Nicole Strasko (Roland, Iowa) got the scoring going in minute four, and eight more converted tries followed in the first half. Life nearly matched its first 40 minutes with 59 points in the second stanza. Leading the try scoring was junior Samantha Elmore (Olympia, Wash.), who dotted down four times to increase her season total to seven. Sophomore Kaitlyn Broughton, a spring recruit from Mufreesboro, Tenn., also has seven tries this season after scoring three five-pointers Saturday. Strasko, junior wing Deshel Ferguson (Nassau, Bahamas) and AIC transfer Darian Lovelace (Naples, Fla.) scored two apiece; and sophomore Sarah McCandless (Chalfont, Pa.), Argentinean freshman Karen Faget, junior Gracie Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore Madison Ohmann (Indian Trail, N.C.) each had one. McCandless and Ohmann shared the kicking duties.

"The coaching staff was happy with the improvements with our lineouts and defensive launch today,” Life University coach Ros Chou said. “We want to keep targeting key areas in which the team needs to strengthen, but they are remaining disciplined regardless of the score line, sticking to the pattern of attack."

"I can't praise the team enough for the effort they're putting in each week and the efforts of strength and conditioning coach, Kimberly Knipe,” Chou continued. “Heading into these next two weeks leading up to the UCF match, we have to remain focused on growth, and my hope is that we continue to develop throughout the rest of the season."

Life gets a break this weekend, but Central Florida, which should be the Running Eagles’ best competition, plays a double-header against Tennessee and Georgia Tech. UCF will host the Feb. 21 match. In other SIRC news, Florida improved to 2-0 after defeating Florida State (0-3) 50-10.
