The Kutztown University 7s team won their fifth consecutive 7s tournament with a sweep of the 20-team field at the URugby 7s in Malvern, Pa.

This was the initial URUGBY Sevens Tournament organized by Steven Siano and his associates at Urugby Sevens. The tournament was held at the Greater Chester Valley Soccer Grounds which provided four perfectly manicured pitches with rugby goal posts and a superbly organized sevens tournament.

The tournament field consisted of  Columbia, Drexel, East Stroudsburg, Georgetown, Kings College, Kutztown 1, Kutztown 2, Kutztown 3, Lehigh, Lafayette, Rowan, Rutgers, Stony Brook, Temple, Penn, Ursinus, Villanova, Washington College and West Virginia.

KU-1 advanced through pool play, defeating Ursinus, 38-0 , Lafayette 48-5 and Penn 35-7. KU-2 was also undefeated at the end of the first day.

KU-1 defeated Lafayette 31-12 in the quarter finals. KU-1 and KU-2 met in the semi finals after KU-2 handled West Virginia 28-12. The semi-final saw KU-1 victorious in a hard fought match  at 36-14. In the final, KU-1 disposed of Temple 50-15. At the end of the six match tournament, Kutztown had scored 230 points and given up 53. Kutztown has not lost a game since the Las Vegas Invitational tournament in mid-February, and since then have won the St.Joe's Tournament, ACRL Raleigh Tournament, Schuylkill River Tournament, Kutztown 7s Tournament, and the URugby Tournament.

The KU-2 side has also been very successful this spring season. They have only suffered two losses in a total of three tournaments. The first loss coming at the hands of Dartmouth in the finals of the Stony Brook tournament. KU-2 also lost in the URugby semifinals to their teammates on KU-1.

Kutztown's top 7s side (KU-1) is now sitting at 27-2 with 861 points scored with 151 against. The Golden Bears are still scheduled to compete in the Empire Tournament in Binghamton NY, the ACRC Virginia Beach Tournament and the Subaru 7s in Wilmington Del. They will also play in the CRC 7s invitational in Chester, Pa. at the end of May.
