Impressive Lineup of Women's Teams at R7CC Sevens

Queens and AIC renew their burgeoning rivalry at the R7CC. Photo Queens University Athletics.

The women's bracket at the USA Rugby Sevens Collegiate Championship (R7CC) are full and set for May 14-15 at Kennesaw State University's Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

R7CCs: Where the Athletes Will Stay and Why That's Important

The Women's Gold bracket will be the only place where you can see NCAA teams and D1 Elite teams compete. Twelve teams are set for the competition, with the four D1 Elite teams of Lindenwood, Life, Central Washington, and Penn State all competing. In addition the NIRA champions Dartmouth, Runners-Up West Point, and the other top-four teams Harvard and Brown are involved. The top three teams from NIRA's DII, champions AIC, runners-up West Chester, and 3rd-place Queen's University Charlotte, join the bracket, and the tournament is rounded out with Sacred Heart, which finished 6th in the DI league.

This is an intriguing clash across competitive borders between the D1 Elite teams and the NIRA (NCAA Varsity) teams.

The Women's Red bracket includes several championship teams from Division 1. Navy, which won the Fall 2021 15s championship, Davenport, which finished 2nd, Air Force, which won the Fall 2019 15s championship, and Virginia Tech, which was the Spring 2019 and Spring 2022 runner-up.

Rounding out the eight are Northeastern, which had an excellent 15s season this year, and three teams with championship histories in Princeton, Stanford, UConn.

And finally the Women's Blue bracket is for smaller programs, with two teams from the West Coast, Saint Mary's and San Jose State, up against two local teams in the University of Georgia, and Kennesaw State.

Not only is this a meeting of the strongest teams in the country, it is also potentially (barring injury) a meeting of the best players in the nation. All five MA Sorensen Award finalists should (barring injury) be playing at Kennesaw State.
